NRWB Commits to quality and quantity water for all by 2030

The Northern Region Water Board (NRWB) has pledged to provide quality and quantity water supply to all urban and rural areas in the northern region by 2030. This commitment was made at the NRWB performance report workshop with Nyika Media Club at Chatonda Lodge.

 

CEO Moses Mnthali emphasized, "Our ultimate responsibility is to ensure quality and quantity water reaches everyone in the northern region." He noted NRWB's impressive performance in supplying quality water despite economic challenges.

"Despite low revenues, depreciation, high loans, and government restrictions on tariff increases, we're performing well," Mnthali said. "However, to enjoy quality water services, we must consider the price of water sold."

Mzuzu Civil Society Network (MCSN) CEO Edward Kantusaye praised NRWB's efforts. "NRWB is doing a great job, but faces economic issues. Water is essential for survival, so a tariff increase is preferable to risking inadequate water supply."

Nyika Media Club Vice CEO Alefa Kasongo appreciated the interactive session. "We've been updated and enlightened on NRWB's challenges and the importance of citizen awareness and advocacy."

NRWB has various ongoing and proposed projects across the northern region. However, financial constraints threaten water supply services, prompting a proposed 15% tariff adjustment to avoid significant losses.
