The University of Livingstonia held its 18th graduation ceremony on October 18, 2024, at Mzuzu Stadium, with 1,036 students graduating from various campuses.

The event, held under the theme "Actualizing Worth Creation and a Moral Society through Transformative Education," saw key speakers encouraging graduates to uphold social values.

The General Secretary of the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia, Reverend William Tembo, urged the new graduates to avoid becoming tools of violence, particularly as Malawi heads towards the general elections.

The University Council Chair, Professor John Kalenga Saka, who took office on October 10, described graduation as a life-changing rite of passage.

He emphasized the importance of education in shaping both individuals and society.Guest of honor, Dr. Richard Mkandawire, encouraged the graduates to strive for self-reliance, noting that Malawi's economic prospects remain fragile.

One of the graduates, Gideon Mwafulirwa, who passed with distinction, shared his journey.

He said: “the road has been rough and I don't know how I can describe the feeling I have right now."

He adds that challenges such as raising school fees made his academic journey tough.

He urged fellow students to persevere and work hard.

Maxwell Chibwe, a proud parent, expressed his excitement over his son's achievement. "I’m very excited that my son has graduated, and I will encourage him to continue his studies because the future lies in education," he said.
