The Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) has embarked on a mission to develop athletics coaching at the grassroots level with the launch of a Basic Athletics Coaching Course in Dowa.
The week-long program, which kicked off on January 13 and runs until January 17, 2025, has brought together 30 participants from diverse backgrounds, including police officers, teachers, community coaches, and para-athletics coaches.
The course, facilitated by certified experts John Mwathiwa and Golden Gunde, aims to equip participants with foundational skills in athletics, covering areas such as running, throwing, and jumping, as well as techniques for track events.
By enhancing coaching expertise at the local level, the initiative seeks to promote the development of athletics in Dowa and beyond.
Participants who complete the program will receive certificates, acknowledging their competence and dedication to advancing athletics coaching.
This initiative underscores MNCS’s commitment to fostering sports development across Malawi.
By empowering local coaches with essential skills, MNCS is laying the groundwork for nurturing athletic talent and promoting sports excellence at the community level.
“We are excited to launch this program in Dowa, which is part of our efforts to develop athletics coaching across the country,” said an MNCS official.
“We believe that by investing in our local coaches, we can unlock the full potential of our athletes and promote sports excellence in Malawi,” he added.
The Basic Athletics Coaching Course is a significant step towards achieving MNCS’s goal of promoting sports development and excellence in Malawi.
As the program continues to roll out, MNCS is confident that it will have a lasting impact on the development of athletics in the country.
