Police in Lilongwe have arrested Tsisa Mbangali, 26, for allegedly murdering his 13-year-old sister-in-law after defiling her. The incident occurred on January 25, 2025, at the suspect’s residence in Area 36, Lilongwe.
According to Lilongwe Police, Mbangali shared a residence with his wife and the deceased. On the day of the incident, at around 01:00 hours, Mbangali woke his wife, claiming there was an intruder in the house.

However, upon investigation, no intruder was found, and the couple discovered the 13-year-old girl missing from the sitting room where she slept.

A search ensued, and the victim’s lifeless body was later found in a nearby maize field, approximately five meters from the couple’s house. A thorough examination of the crime scene revealed no signs of forced entry or exit, leading detectives to conclude that the perpetrator was someone inside the house.

The victim’s body, which showed signs of bleeding from the nose and private parts, was taken to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) for a post-mortem examination. The autopsy revealed that the victim’s skull had been depressed by a heavy object, and confirmed defilement. The cause of death was determined to be strangulation and head injury.

DNA samples from both Mbangali and the deceased have been collected for further analysis. Mbangali, a resident of Buluzi Village, Traditional Authority Kalumba in Lilongwe District, is currently in police custody.
