By Watson Mvula

In an electrifying display of speed, precision, and unwavering determination, Wilson “Bronze Boy” Phiri defied the odds on the night of May 25, securing victory over the formidable Simon Tchetha to claim the National Super Middleweight Championship at Bremat Multipurpose Hall in Lilongwe.

Leading up to the fight, many had underestimated Phiri, placing their bets on Tchetha, a towering force with raw punching power. But from the opening bell, Phiri set the tone for a night of surprises. He darted around the ring with relentless energy, closing spaces with a high guard, delivering razor sharp punches, and racking up points as his fans erupted in deafening cheers.

“Tchetha is a powerful boxer, but I am more technical and skillful,” Phiri asserted after his triumph. “I managed to get the victory, and now I am looking for international bouts.”

Tchetha, known for his knockout strength and height advantage, aimed to dismantle Phiri with punishing body shots. Yet, no matter how hard he struck, Phiri refused to crumble under pressure. His iron clad defense and strategic movement frustrated Tchetha’s efforts.

“Phiri is strong, and his guard is even stronger,” a reflective Tchetha admitted. “He did not surrender to my punches.”

As the final rounds approached, spectators were left in disbelief, shaking their heads at the unexpected turn of events. Phiri, defying expectations and proving doubters wrong, stood tall inside the ropes now a national champion with his sights set on the global stage.

With this victory, Wilson Phiri has not only carved his name into Malawian boxing history but also sent a strong message. He is ready to take on the world.
