Sugar scarcity hits Mzuzu City, vendors queue at Chipiku Shopping Mall

By Peter M. Kalua

A severe shortage of sugar has been reported in Mzuzu City, with local vendors scrambling to purchase the commodity from Chipiku Shopping Mall. As of this evening, May 20, 2025, vendors are queuing at the mall in hopes of securing a supply of sugar.

The scarcity has been attributed to various factors, including supply chain disruptions and high demand. Many vendors have expressed frustration and concern over the shortage, citing the impact on their businesses and customers.

The queue at Chipiku Shopping Mall stretches for several meters, with vendors patiently waiting for their turn to purchase sugar. Some have been waiting for hours, while others have been turned away due to stock shortages.

The situation has left many vendors worried about meeting the demands of their customers, particularly with the approaching festive season. Efforts are being made to resolve the issue, but for now, the queue remains a testament to the scarcity of sugar in Mzuzu City.
