The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested Rumphi North Member of Parliament, Jappie Mhango, in connection with the alleged illegal acquisition of government-owned houses.
The arrest took place on Monday morning, and Mhango is currently being held at the ACB offices in Mzuzu.
He confirmed the arrest in a brief statement to reporters but declined to comment further on the matter.
Although full details surrounding the arrest remain unclear, sources close to the investigation say Mhango is suspected of being involved in a controversial sale of government property that may have breached procurement procedures and public trust regulations.
ACB released a statement which shows that the arrest follows weeks of investigations into suspected abuse of office and irregularities in the disposal of public assets.
