The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) has announced the suspension of all USAID-funded projects after the United States government cuts the financial support, effective January 2025.
In an official statement released on February 3, 2025, LUANAR’s University Registrar informed staff and students that all work and expenditures on USAID-supported activities must stop immediately.
The university cited the directive from the US government, which ordered a suspension of aid funding, as the reason for the decision.
"All staff that were working in USAID-funded projects are therefore advised to immediately stop working. Similarly, students that were getting support from USAID projects are advised that their funding from USAID is no longer there hence may consider to either drop or look for funding alternatives," said the statement.
LUANAR further clarified that it lacks the financial resources to sustain the affected projects, urging those impacted to seek alternative solutions.
