Lilongwe Police have apprehended six individuals in connection with the theft of K70 million worth of irrigation equipment from a private farm in the Njewa area.
The suspects, identified as George Watson, 25, Dikilani Chokazinga, 29, Richard Lyton, 40, Positani Gediyasi, 32, Samuel Banda, 27, and Chibvumbulutso Banda, 30, allegedly vandalized the irrigation system and stole various equipment, including diesel generators, water pumps, solar panels, and electricity cables.
The farm’s owner reported that the theft occurred between August 2024 and January 2025. Following investigations, detectives were able to unmask the suspects’ identities and recover some of the stolen items, including a 260-watt solar panel, irrigation pipes, a metal door, and scaffolds. Efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining stolen materials.
The suspects will appear in court next week to face vandalism and theft charges. According to Inspector Hastings Chigalu, Lilongwe Police PRO, the suspects come from various villages in Lilongwe District, including Kanyoza Village, Ching’amba Village, and Kalolo Village.
