Lilongwe Police have apprehended two suspects in connection with the robbery at Malembo Admarc in Kasiya, which occurred on January 29, 2025. The suspects, Maupo Chalemera, 38, and Innocent Banda, 29, are accused of stealing a pump gun and a cash chest containing at least K7 million.
According to Inspector Hastings Chigalu, Lilongwe Police PRO, the robbery involved a group of criminals who tied up a security guard, robbed him of his pump gun, and then broke into a marketing officer’s office to steal the cash chest. Following investigations, police arrested Chalemera in Kasiya and Banda in Mtsiriza location.
Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the robbery and led detectives to Malembo graveyard, where the stolen pump gun was recovered. Efforts are underway to arrest five more suspects and recover the stolen money.
The suspects will appear in court soon to answer charges of robbery. Chalemera hails from Salamba Village, Traditional Authority Chiwaula, Lilongwe, while Banda is from Makwangwala Village, Traditional Authority Makwangwala in Ntcheu District.
