Wife of Constable Banele Sikhosana, a murdered South African police officer, has been arrested for allegedly hiring the hitmen responsible for his death. Sikhosana, an Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officer, was fatally shot on February 7, 2025, while opening his tuck shop in Rest in Kwa-Thema, Ekurhuleni.
According to authorities, the killers took Sikhosana’s service pistol, and a subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Nhlizitozabantu Magwanyana at the Kwa-Thema Hostel. Magwanyana confessed to carrying out the killing and implicated Sikhosana’s wife as the mastermind behind the murder.
Acting EMPD Chief of Police Julius Mkhwanazi revealed that Magwanyana admitted to being paid by Sikhosana’s wife, with the final payment made shortly after the murder. Another suspect remains at large, but police expect to make an imminent arrest.
Investigations further uncovered that this was not the first attempt on Sikhosana’s life. His wife had allegedly tried to poison him just a week before the murder. Sikhosana was on sick leave, recovering from the suspected poisoning, when he was shot dead.
A memorial service was held at Sikhosana’s home on February 13, and his wife was taken into custody the following day, February 14, while preparing funeral arrangements. The arrested suspects are scheduled to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court today, February 17.
A similar case happened in 2020 where Constable Nomia Rosemary Ndlovu was accused of hiring hitmen to kill her family members, including her boyfriend, sister, and five children, in order to claim insurance pay-outs totalling over R3.5 million ($230,000 USD).
