From Ambulance to Classroom: Namadingo Prioritizes Education in Machinga

By Hastings Yobe

“After careful consideration, I have decided to move the money I initially allocated for ambulance repairs in Mangochi District towards a different project: The construction of a school block at Wataka Primary School in Machinga District.”
This shift in priorities comes after a heartfelt appeal from Wataka Primary School, a historic institution founded by the Catholic Church in 1934. One of the school’s classroom blocks was recently demolished by a quality assessment team due to its dangerously poor condition. This unfortunate situation has forced learners to hold classes under mango trees—exposing them to harsh weather and significantly disrupting their education.
“The school officially wrote to me the day I left Mangochi, asking for help,” Namadingo explained. “Their heartfelt appeal led me to respond without hesitation.”

The school serves children from over eight surrounding villages in Machinga, as well as parts of Mangochi. Recognizing the urgent need for a safe and conducive learning environment, Namadingo emphasized the importance of action: “Ultimately, every child deserves a safe and conducive learning environment – no one should be learning under the hot sun or running away from rain during classes.”

Following thorough planning and completion of all necessary procedures, construction of the new classroom block is set to commence next week. Namadingo is scheduled to travel to Machinga tomorrow to inspect the site and engage local community members in the development process.
