UNILIA Vice Chancellor’s Trophy Kicks Off at Laws Campus

The highly anticipated Vice Chancellor’s Trophy at the University of Livingstonia (UNILIA) commenced on April 2nd at the Laws Campus in Rumphi. The tournament features teams from four campuses: Ekwendeni Health Sciences (ECOHES), Ekwendeni Social Sciences (ECOS), Laws Campus (Mother Campus), and Kaning’ina Campus (City Campus).
Laws Campus made a strong start, winning all their matches across football, volleyball, netball, and basketball on the first day. The reigning football champions stamped their authority with a dominant 3-0 victory over ECOHES. Ephraim scored a brace, while Steve converted a penalty, all in the first half. This was a significant improvement from their last meeting at the 2024 Chancellor’s Trophy, where ECOHES had managed a 1-0 victory.
ECOS also had a commanding start, thrashing Kaning’ina Campus 3-0, thanks to a brace from Adams and a goal from Wahella. This result puts ECOS level on points with Laws Campus at the top of the table.
In volleyball, Kaning’ina Campus, the reigning champions, lived up to expectations by securing a 3-1 set victory over ECOS. Laws Campus also made their mark against ECOHES with a 3-0 set win.
ECOS made a powerful statement in basketball, overwhelming Kaning’ina Campus with a massive 91-46 victory. Laws Campus also edged past ECOHES in a closely contested match, winning 48-45.

In netball, Kaning’ina Campus suffered a heavy defeat, losing 33-15 to ECOS. Laws Campus displayed their dominance by securing a convincing 43-22 win over ECOHES.

With Laws Campus leading in multiple disciplines, the tournament promises intense competition as teams battle for the prestigious Vice Chancellor’s Trophy. The games will continue until April 5th.
