Trump and Elon Musk Clash Over New Tax Bill

By Madalitso Mtukula

U.S. President Donald Trump and businessman Elon Musk have had a public disagreement over a new tax and spending bill. The bill, called the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” is supported by Trump but strongly criticized by Musk, who says it will hurt the economy and increase the country’s debt.
Musk called the bill a “disgusting abomination” and said it would add over $2 trillion to the national debt. He is also unhappy that the bill removes government support for electric vehicles and clean energy areas that are very important to his company, Tesla.

In response, Trump said Musk was being “hostile” and claimed the billionaire was only upset because the bill cuts programs that benefit his businesses. Trump also said Musk is showing signs of “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” suggesting he is reacting emotionally instead of logically.

After the disagreement, Musk resigned from his position as head of the Department of Government Efficiency, a job he held for just a few months. Tesla’s stock dropped after the news, and some of Musk’s close allies began stepping away from Trump’s team.

Just a few months ago, the two appeared to have a good working relationship. Musk had even donated to Trump’s campaign and praised his leadership. But this fight has made it clear that their partnership is now broken.

Many people are watching closely to see what happens next. Some experts say this clash could affect the 2026 elections and how future governments work with tech companies like Tesla.
