Lilongwe Police have arrested a 24-year-old ex-convict, Manuel Mazoni, for breaking into an Indian national’s house at Area 9 and stealing items valued at K14 million.
According to Inspector Hastings Chigalu, Lilongwe Police PRO, Mazoni stole various items, including iPhones, a laptop, an Apple iPad, and cash, from Harpal Singh’s house on December 27, 2024. Singh works with the Indian High Commission in Lilongwe.
Detectives identified Mazoni, who was previously imprisoned in 2019 for breaking into the Malawi Electoral Commission offices, through CCTV footage. Upon his arrest, Mazoni admitted to the crime and revealed that he had sold the stolen items to another person.
Two other individuals have been arrested for receiving and selling the stolen property. One of the suspects had already sold the items in Mozambique, and police are working to recover the stolen goods.
Mazoni, who comes from Chidothi Village in Dowa District, and the two other suspects will appear in court soon to face charges.
