A 26-year-old woman, Chrissy Paulo, has been arrested by Mangochi Police for allegedly cutting off her ex-husband’s little finger during a violent confrontation.
According to Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, Public Relations Officer for Mangochi Police Station, the incident occurred on January 1, 2025, at Makawa Fishing Dock in Mangochi District. Paulo had found her ex-husband, 48-year-old Wilson Matumbo, socializing with other women, which sparked a fit of rage.

Despite being intoxicated and with a client at the time, Paulo confronted Matumbo, and the situation escalated into a physical altercation. During the fight, Paulo allegedly bit off half of Matumbo’s little finger before fleeing the scene.

Matumbo was rushed to Koche Community Hospital for medical attention, and the matter was reported to Makokola Police Unit. Paulo went into hiding but was eventually arrested on January 8, 2025.

Paulo has been charged with grievous harm, contrary to Section 238 of the Penal Code, and has pleaded not guilty. She remains in custody at Mangochi Prison as she awaits trial, which has been adjourned to February 6, 2025.
