As anticipation builds for tomorrow’s highly awaited Blantyre Derby between Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium, authorities have assured the public of heightened security to ensure a safe and enjoyable matchday experience.
Speaking to the media, National Police Spokesperson Peter Kalaya confirmed that comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place and encouraged families to attend the game without fear.
“As police, we will arrest anyone who initiates violence during the Blantyre Derby,” warned Kalaya. “This is a game for everyone, including families, and we are committed to ensuring a peaceful environment where supporters can come and cheer for their teams.”
The match, scheduled to kick off at 15:00 hours, is expected to attract a massive crowd, with both clubs boasting some of the most passionate fanbases in the country. In response, the Malawi Police Service has deployed a large number of officers in and around the stadium. The officers will be strategically positioned to handle crowd control and respond swiftly to any disturbances.
In addition to police efforts, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), in collaboration with the Malawi National Council of Sports, has introduced strict entry protocols. These include thorough bag checks at all gates and a ban on large banners or items that could obstruct the view of fellow spectators.
